Blood Sugar Fasting & PP (Postprandial)
Know your Blood Glucose Morning and After Lunch
Service Description
Blood glucose tests are used to measure the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. There are two common types of blood glucose tests: fasting blood glucose (FBG) and postprandial blood glucose (PPG). 1. Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) What it is: This test measures your blood glucose level after you have fasted for at least 8 hours. It's typically done in the morning before eating or drinking anything except water. Normal Range: Normal: 70 to 99 mg/dL (3.9 to 5.5 mmol/L) Prediabetes (Impaired Fasting Glucose): 100 to 125 mg/dL (5.6 to 6.9 mmol/L) Diabetes: 126 mg/dL (7 mmol/L) or higher (on two separate tests) Purpose: It's used to diagnose conditions like diabetes or prediabetes. Fasting blood glucose gives an indication of how well your body is managing blood sugar without the influence of recent meals. 2. Postprandial Blood Glucose (PPG) What it is: This test measures your blood glucose level 2 hours after eating a meal. It shows how your body processes glucose after digestion and absorption of food. Normal Range: Normal: Less than 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L) Prediabetes: 140 to 199 mg/dL (7.8 to 11.0 mmol/L) Diabetes: 200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) or higher (on two separate tests) Purpose: This test is helpful for assessing how well your body controls blood sugar after meals. It helps identify abnormal responses to food, which is important for diagnosing diabetes, especially when fasting glucose levels are normal.
