MPDA – Malaria Parasite Detection Antigen The MPDA test (Malaria Antigen test) is a rapid diagnostic test used to detect malaria infection by identifying specific antigens from the Plasmodium parasites in the blood, especially: Plasmodium falciparum Plasmodium vivax Key Features: Quick results (within 15–30 minutes) Detects current infection Often used in emergency settings or where microscopy isn't available Usually performed using a blood sample (finger prick or venous) Purpose: Diagnose malaria quickly Guide timely treatment Useful in endemic areas or for travelers with fever It does not measure parasite count, but helps confirm presence of malaria antigens.
